Every1 Goes Local: Bringing the Digital Energy Transition to Europe’s Doorsteps

In 2024–2025, Every1 launched an ambitious outreach initiative: Every1 Goes Local.

The mission was clear - bring the conversation about the digital energy transition directly to people across Europe, meeting individuals in neighbourhoods, campuses, business districts, festivals, and industry gatherings.

Through roadshows, community events, research nights, festivals, and even door-to-door conversations in commercial districts, our partners met hundreds of citizens, students, SMEs, industry professionals, and local stakeholders. The goal? To raise awareness, collect perspectives, and better understand what people need from the digitalisation of Europe’s future energy systems.

A European Campaign Rooted in Local Encounters

From Brussels to Copenhagen, Milton Keynes to Athens, Graz to Eindhoven, the campaign unfolded in dozens of cities and towns - each stop offering a unique glimpse into how Europeans perceive the evolving energy landscape.

The campaign combined two complementary approaches:

1. Roadshows at community, academic & industry events

These events enabled us to meet people where they already gather:

festivals, research fairs, university campuses, business conferences, and major energy forums.

2. Doorstepping in neighbourhoods and business districts

To reach people who don’t typically attend energy-related events, project members went door to door listening, informing, and sparking conversations in everyday settings such as libraries, independent shops, and cafes.

This mix ensured broad representation of voices: from students and SMEs to industry leaders, public authorities, families, and citizens of all ages.

What We Learned: Citizens Want Practical Benefits and Knowledge about the Digital Energy Transition

Across all locations, three messages came through clearly:

  1. People care about fair access and transparency
Citizens want to know how data is used, who gains, and how privacy is protected.
  2. SMEs and local industries are eager to innovate -  but need support
Many see opportunity in digital energy services but require clear incentives, tools, and guidance.
  3. Energy Literacy is critical so communities can engage in the transition
Our events revealed a strong appetite for local involvement and practical resources.

These insights will feed directly into the Every1 project’s research, communication activities, and upcoming demonstrator actions.
