Synergy projects

PLANET will facilitate and ease the deployment of coordinated energy transition actions by the public sector. The project will use the most innovative tools in artificial intelligence and big data together with an innovative clustering governance to boost Energy Transition Plans at the municipal level. Besides, it will foster the digitalisation of energy data available in dispersed data sources, of the energy transition measures and of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs), enabling an ecosystem of data and tools to support decision-making on energy transition.

RURALITIES is a first-of-its kind pan-African setting in the Horizon Europe Programme, interlinking the rural spheres of Africa and the European Union (EU). The project develops on the specific contribution of 18 fellow partners from Africa, e.g., Burkina Faso Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia. RURALITIES aims at playing a structural role in contributing to the current Africa-EU partnership, which is designed to build on this historical relationship, and to create a framework for deeper dialogues between the two regions in a vast panoply of fields, such as rural development. RURALITIES enables the EU and Africa engage in regular developments with a focus on the project’s capacity building programme, embodied by ‘RURALITIES Commons 2050 Learning Framework’ (RURCOM), a solution-oriented programme to guide rural community-led empowerment along all the steps of the innovation process, also considering existing initiatives that struggle with problems or simply need revitalization.

Due to the current energy crisis, the EU is reaching a critical point in the energy transition with the Clean Energy Package. Residential demand response (DR) is a promising approach that can significantly contribute to such a transition, but its potential is yet untapped. DR is the adaptation of the final energy demand in reaction to signals from the energy markets in order to increase the stability of the energy system. In this framework, DR-RISE’s main objective is to demonstrate the benefits of DR in the residential sector, not only for the end-consumers but for the overall energy system and the actors involved and promote it. Accordingly, DR-RISE will further develop a holistic set of tools and services with a twofold objective: increasing energy efficiency via optimal management and demonstrating DR schemes’ benefits (not only economic).

Rural Europe is facing an energy challenge. As electrification increases, outdated grids struggle to keep up, and rural communities are often left behind. These areas need effective solutions to become energy resilient and self-sufficient, but fragmented policies and limited resources make this difficult.

CIRCUS, "Connecting Initiatives for Rural Communities, Upscaling their Sustainable energy," is here to change that. Our project focuses on adapting and spreading innovative energy tools to help rural communities across Europe thrive. We believe that by sharing knowledge and working together across borders, we can make a real difference.

LIFE-BECKON stimulates and boosts the deployment of energy communities across Europe by developing and delivering comprehensive support mechanisms for public authorities, promoters and Local Action Groups to better equip them to facilitate the creation of energy communities, therefore answering to clear needs and known barriers.

RESCHOOL improves the way energy communities operate by enhancing the technology and behaviour of their users. This will help to make these communities more efficient and effective in their use of energy.

Currently, the energy sector is responsible for 72% of the EU’s green house gas emissions, this situation calls for a rapid and effective decarbonization of all sectors. Reaching the sustainability targets negotiated under the Green Deal requires facing the green transition towards clean energy by increasing the renewable share and efficient use of energy.

RESCHOOL aims to increase the active participation of communities in energy markets, enhancing and facilitating the management and trading of flexibility in cooperation with sectoral players.
