Over 9,000 energy communities exist across Europe, and the number keeps growing. Despite this momentum, many citizens—especially those from hard-to-reach groups—are still not fully engaged. Why? Barriers such as low interest, limited knowledge, and a lack of digital and energy-related skills continue to stand in the way. Existing communities also struggle to move beyond self-generation into more complex energy activities such as flexibility services. But there’s hope. Emerging technologies—like AI-powered energy management assistants—are opening up new possibilities. Are these technologies the missing key to allow all Europeans be active participants in the energy transition? Can tech truly grasp the needs and wants of real people? Let’s find out together in an engaging live discussion with three Horizon-funded projects that will share their views into the future of AI-powered data driven communities in Europe.
